The Hodson Computerized Analysis of Phonological Patterns (HCAPP) software is efficient and user friendly. The HCAPP provides a quick way to score Phonological Deviations for HAPP-3 words. Phonetic symbols on the software that represent the child’s productions of 50 words can be entered into the computer in approximately 5 minutes (depending on one’s typing speed and the individual client’s level of severity). The utterances are scored for phonological deviations as soon as the “Results” button is “clicked.” Client data can be stored for future retrieval.
After having gone through all 50 words, a two-page Phonological Analysis Summary report is produced for viewing onscreen and can also be emailed for printing later. This report includes:
-Total Occurrences of Major Phonological Deviations (TOMPDs)
- a severity rating specification (mild, moderate, severe, profound) based on TOMPDs
-A Goal Statement specifying potential optimal target patterns for a highly unintelligible client (based on the percentage data collected)
-A place to provide notes regarding specific productions of words and diagnostic information
